The combined foreign trade value of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has surged by 34.4% over the past 10 years and crossed the 5-trillion-yuan milestone, according to data released at a regional customs development forum.
The region's import and export value hit 5.03 trillion yuan ($712.5 billion) in 2024, marking a substantial rise from 3.74 trillion. Moreover, in the first 10 months of 2025, it conducted 3.91 trillion yuan worth of trade with over 240 countries and regions.
Exports hit a record high of 1.2 trillion yuan, up 5.6% year on year. Trade with Belt and Road partner countries grew 7.9%, accounting for 58.2% of exports.
Notable growth was also seen in emerging markets, including Africa and Central Asia, up 31.9% and 40.2%, respectively.
Auto parts, ships, and pharmaceuticals led export growth. Ship exports skyrocketed by 176.5%, while pharmaceutical exports rose 37.5%.
Private enterprises remained the primary export force, accounting for 46.9% of the region's export value with an increase of 15.7%.
Marking the 11th year of coordinated regional development, the symposium highlighted 10 exemplary cases of customs collaboration.
One initiative helped to establish a coordinated port service center in Beijing's CBD, offering Beijing-based firms customs clearance services as convenient as those by Tianjin port.
Other cases included streamlined oversight for the aerospace industry and enhanced logistics for energy supplies in the shipping hub in northern China.
Customs authorities of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei also outlined future collaborative tasks. Beijing Customs will lead efforts to apply smart customs solutions across the region and build efficient logistics systems to support modern industries and higher-level opening up.
The plans also include eight key measures to support the modernization of Xiong'an New Area. These will focus on relocating central state-owned enterprises, developing its comprehensive bonded zone, strengthening cross-border logistics, facilitating regional customs clearance, supporting exhibitions and fairs, piloting new free trade policies, advancing smart city construction, and enhancing technological support for industries.
