"Recently some foreign media have been attacking 'Made in China'
products as problematic. They fail to realize that in bashing the
'Made in China' brand, they are, in effect, damaging the interests
of their home countries," said Assistant Minister of Commerce Wang
Chao in response to recent negative reports on the quality of
products manufactured in China.
Wang Chao explained that over 50 percent of the "Made in China"
products are for processing trade. That means all these products
are manufactured in line with the requirements of overseas clients
and international standards. In terms of exporter composition, over
58 percent of products are exported by foreign owned enterprises.
The "Made in China" brand is built amidst fierce competition among
state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, and foreign-invested
firms. In this sense, "Made in China" also implies "made by the
world".
"China delivers US$100 million worth of goods to the rest of the
world every hour," Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng told a
news conference on Thursday. He believes that "made in China"
products play a crucial role on the global consumer market. If most
goods manufactured in China are unreliable and of inferior quality,
it would be impossible for the "Made in China" brand to go this far
and enjoy top reputation to date.
