"It showcases a firm determination of the Party members that they will follow the route of scientific development," the spokesman said.

The amended Party Constitution has enriched theoretical innovations made by the Party since the 16th national congress, the spokesman said.

The new Party Constitution also added establishment of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics along with the blazing of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and formulation of the system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

It said that the system, the path and the theories are fundamental to all of China's achievements and progress since the policy of reform and opening up was adopted.

It has been the first time for the Party Constitution to incorporate the three aspects which are united under the great socialist practice with Chinese characteristics.

The spokesman said the socialist system with Chinese characteristics include China's current political systems such as the system of people's congresses at all levels, the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC, the system of regional ethnic autonomy and the country's judicial system as well as the basic economic system.

The addition of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics will help the Party members deepen understanding of socialism with Chinese characteristics and further strengthen the Party's confidence in the path, the theories and the system, he said.
