China ranks first in the world in term of the number of mobile phone users, with 120.6 million mobile phone users by the end of July of this year.
According to the Ministry of Information Industry, China has just narrowly surpassed the United States, whose mobile phone users hit 120.1 million.
Statistics show that China's telecommunications sector continues to witness robust expansion and in the first half of this year, the number of telephone users stood at 281 million, an increase of 51.672 million.
According to the Tenth Five-Year Plan, by the end of 2005, the number of mobile phone users in the Chinese mainland will hit 260 million, an increase of 20 percent year on year.
The information industry ranks first among various industrial sectors in China and the export of relevant products has played an important role in foreign trade.
