Excuse two: Potsdam Declaration does not cover the Diaoyu Island issue
The Japanese government stated in the Capitulation of Japan that it would undertake the obligation of loyally fulfilling every item of the Potsdam Declaration. Actually, the eighth affiliated item of the Potsdam Declaration or the No. 677 ordinance of High Command of UN Allied Forces clearly defined Japan's domain, which does not include the Diaoyu Islands.
Excuse three: The Treaty of San Francisco proscribed to entrust the United States to temporarily control the Diaoyu Islands and Japan took over the administration right from the United States.
First of all, since the People's Republic of China did not participate in the preparation, drafting and signing of the Treaty of San Francisco; the government of China believes it is illegal and invalid. Second, the treaty did not clearly mention the Diaoyu Islands.
Where will the China-Japan relationship go?
"China is the largest export market of Japan, but Japan is only the third largest export market of China. Japan has maintained a trade surplus with China for a long period. If the China-Japan economic and trade relationship worsens, Japan's economy will be more affected than China's," said Gong Yingchun, associate professor from the Department of International Laws under Foreign Affairs University
"The Diaoyu Islands issue is just an aspect but not all of the China-Japan relationship." The associate director of China Institute of International Studies Liu Qing said that if Japan continues to go its own way, China will take further countermeasures, ultimately leading to more losses of Japan.
