Jade Screen
With the Jade Screen Pavilion at its center flanked by the Lotus Peak and the Celestial Capital Peak, the Jade Screen Scenic Areas is commonly called the Front Mountain. Here, tourists will find such renowned scenic spots as the Three Islands of Peng Lai, the 100-step Scaling Ladder, the Thread of the Sky and the New Thread of the Sky running all the way up to the top.
The area surrounding the Jade Screen Pavilion is considered to boast the best sceneries of Mount Huangshan, with the iconic Greeting Pine standing to its left and Farewell Pine situated to its right. In front of the pavilion is the Guest Accompanying Pine and behind it looms the towering Jade Screen Peak. Atop the peak, tourists will find a big area of rocks resembling the shape of a lying Buddha, called the "Lying Buddha at Jade Screen Peak."
Inscribed on the Jade Screen Peak is Chairman Mao Zedong's poetic line "So splendid is the landscape."?
The 1,830-meter-high Heavenly Capital Peak, neighboring Jade Screen Peak in the south, is the steepest of the three main peaks of Mount Huangshan. An ancient poem eulogizing the peak reads as follows, "The Celestial Capital Peak never fails to strike travelers with awe, even if they have already visited all the top five mountains of China."
The Lotus Peak, resembling a blooming lotus, is the highest peak of Mount Huangshan, with an elevation of 1,864 meters. When climbing the peak, which is located to the north of the Jade Screen Peak, tourists will be greeted by oddly-shaped pines and azaleas. On rainy days, tourists will find themselves surrounded by a sea of clouds.
