TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday discussed bilateral relations and important regional and international developments.
In a phone call, the two sides agreed to continue consultations to strengthen bilateral relations, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
They also vowed to coordinate on regional and international issues to help ensure stability and security in the Middle East, the statement added.
Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said his country and Egypt had agreed to hold a new round of bilateral political consultations soon.
Iran and Egypt severed diplomatic relations in 1980 following Iran's Islamic Revolution and Egypt's peace treaty with Israel the previous year. In recent years, both sides have signaled willingness to improve ties. Enditem
